Another Danish coach at CSM after Vestergaard takes over the defending champions
CSM Bucuresti’s romance with Danish coaches will continue in the next two seasons, even after Kim Rasmussen’s departure.
The Women’s EHF Champions League title holder appointed Jakob Vestergaard as their new coach, while Rasmussen will be Hungary’s women national team’s coach.
“It is a great pleasure to me that I signed a two-year contract. I decided to sign with CSM because I believed in the project and for me it is a great challenge to be the coach of the European top competition’s winner,” said Vestergaard.
The 41-year old coach has already been in strong contact with CSM, where he worked as a technical director between 2014 and 2015, before leaving for Germany’s national women’s team.
However, an uneventful stint, with Germany failing to qualify for last year’s World Championship and this summer’s Olympic Games, led to Vestergaard being unable to retain his position.
The Danish coach, two-time winner of the Women’s EHF Champions League with Viborg in 2009 and 2010, has also been a fan-favourite in Romania, after leading Oltchim Ramnicu Valcea to the business end of the European premium competition in 2013.
“It is a great pleasure to work with international top players and I hope together will do a very good job,” added the Danish coach.
Vestergaard will be the third Dane who coached CSM in the last two years, after Mette Klit and Kim Rasmussen.
