A week of hard work and maybe a bit of fun

LAST WEEK IN THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE: Even though the players are passing weights, dribbling medicine balls and pacing long distance runs, the preparation kicks up a notch, and we are here to cover it

A week of hard work and maybe a bit of fun

The preparation is heating up to the boiling point. However, even if many of the biggest stars are in Rio with their national teams, the squads are pumping iron and building up their fitness on a daily basis.

Hard work is upon the VELUX EHF Champions League stars, as mid-August is the time of reckoning for ball training to finally begin. But for now, the players are passing weights, dribbling medicine balls and running long distance.

Some, however need intensive exercise, like the Veszprem star Dragan Gajic, who has been wasting no time. While his compatriots are battling in Rio, Gajo has been breaking sweat in the gym alongside Laszlo Nagy, and several Veszprem stars to make a flying start to the new season, well rested, and well prepared.

Gajo’s 18 trainings in seven days routine may be a bit excessive at this stage, but it certainly shows the quintessential right winger is aware of the rigors of the new season, battling on many fronts with the Hungarian powerhouse.

No cutting slacks

Zagreb are deep into their preparation, even as their coach Veselin Vujovic is thousands of kilometres away, fighting for Olympic Games glory in Rio.

However, to ensure there are no cutting slacks, for the time being the Lions' coaching staff are overseeing their preparation. Judging by what we have seen on their social media accounts, the team is in great shape, and even grater spirits, approaching the start of the season.

What a jogging tandem!

The Holidays are over, and Victor Tomas and Valero Rivera have also begun their light pre-season regimen. The wingers are taking advantage of the Barcelona weather to enjoy some quality time outdoors.

The selfie below was taken during one of their morning jogs at the beach.

Not a jog, but a bike ride, and still PSG guys find way to keep themselves fit and ready as their biggest stars are at the Olympic Games. As if Mountain biking wasn’t hard enough, William Accambray and Nedim Remili stopped for a session of squats.

Bus ride in Rio

The Slovenians are well on their way to become a sensation at the Olympic Games. Slovenia managed to avoid upset against Egypt in their first match, however the performance was far from convincing, aside from the eight-goal master class by the newcomer Blaz Janc.

Janc and co were delighted to record their opening win, however, the coach Vujovic was not as impressed, therefore the team had to take a bus to the Olympic village. Hope everyone bought a ticket.

Lekic is back

Andrea Lekic had an injury setback during her handball camp in June, which only served to show the dedication the player has to her cause.

However, the very same dedication and devotion on one thing she loves best has made her stronger and back on track to reach the optimum form by the start of the season.

It is great to see Lekic running again. Even if her fitness is not 100 per cent just yet, her jovial spirit has not taken a hit. Just have a listen to her song of choice.

Györ reunion

Once again the Olympic Games reunite teammates. The Györ girls Yvette Broch and Nycke Groot have surely missed the spirited left back Eduarda Amorim, and with a little less than a month until the season begins, this photo will warm the hearts of many Györ fans out there.
