Match of the Week set for opening four rounds

NEWS REPORT: Germany, Spain, Hungary and France will play host to ehfTV.com’s featured VELUX EHF Champions League encounters for the first month of action.

Match of the Week set for opening four rounds

The ehfTV.com Match of the Week will be played in four different countries in the first four rounds with matches showcasing the VELUX EHF Champions League’s finest talent, certain to satisfy handball fans across Europe in September and October.

The four matches will feature seven sides from five countries, all serious contenders in Europe’s top flight in recent seasons.

Round 1:
Saturday 24 September (17:30 CET), FLENS Arena (Flensburg, GER)
SG Flensburg-Handewitt vs Telekom Veszprém

2014 champions Flensburg welcome Veszprem to northern Germany for the first clash of the season.

Both sides’ campaign last season came to an end with defeat against eventual champions Kielce and both will see this match as a perfect opportunity to leave their painful loss in the past and get the new season off to a bright start.

Round 2:
Saturday 1 October (TBC), Palau Blaugrana (Barcelona, ESP)
FC Barcelona Lassa vs THW Kiel

Two of the competition’s most successful outfits meet in the standout match of Round 2. THW Kiel came out on top when they met over two legs in last season’s quarter-final stage, but Barcelona won their home match 33:30 and will fancy their chances of repeating that result at Palau Blaugrana.

Round 3:

Sunday 9 October (17:00 CET), Varosi Sportcsarnok (Szeged, HUN)
MOL-Pick Szeged vs KS Vive Tauron Kielce

Round 3 sees defending champions Kielce enter the MOTW limelight for the first time this season as they visit Hungary to take on formidable opponents Szeged. This will be a particularly big occasion for Dean Bombac, who moved from Szeged to Kielce after his incredible 101 goals in the competition in 2015/16.

These teams met in the group phase last season and shared the spoils with one home victory by one goal each, promising another exciting and tight match when they meet on 9 October on ehfTV.com.

Round 4:

Sunday 16 October (18:30 CET), Stade Pierre de Coubertin (Paris, FRA)
Paris Saint-Germain Handball vs SG Flensburg-Handewitt

Now PSG have a taste for the VELUX EHF FINAL4 and they will do everything in their power to reach the event once again and give themselves a chance of collecting the trophy.

However, Group A is full of danger and Flensburg are a foe they know all too well, following their two barnstorming group phase matches last season, which combined for 138 goals in 120 minutes. This massive test of Paris’ strength at home will be the featured match in Round 4.

All matches will be streamed live on ehfTV.com with English language commentary worldwide, though geo-blocking may apply in some countries due to broadcasting rights.
