No-nonsense win for Györ against Esbjerg
With just one slip-up in seven games in this season’s Women's EHF Champions League, Györ reaffirmed their status as one of the favourites in the competition.
GROUP 2
Team Esbjerg (DEN) vs Györi ETO Audi KC (HUN) 26:32 (12:14)
Esbjerg's chances to progress were seriously in doubt after their loss against Danish rivals FCM last week and this week's game did nothing to help their cause.
Early lead pays dividends for Györ
A well-prepared Györ team – which did little wrong in defence or attack - started the game well with Nora Mork opening the scoring for the Hungarian side within the opening 60 seconds. The hosts did not open their account until nearly five minutes were on the clock as Rikke Riber Zachariassen sunk home (1:3). While Esbjerg managed to contain the Hungarian side for spells in the first half, even tying the game at 5:5 in the 10th minute, ultimately the Danish side had no answer for Györ's offensive prowess, with the Hungarian side boasting a 14:12 lead at half-time. Perfect Görbicz earns Györ the win It was, ultimately, Anita Görbicz who led Györ to an easy win, their seventh of the season, as the playmaker scored 11 goals which helped her side jump to an early lead in the second half and it was a lead they never looked back from. Not even Esbjerg's aggressive defence could find the answer to stop Györ, who earned a comfortable 32:26 win, consolidating their first place, a strong position ahead of their game against Larvik next week.
