EHF to offer big packages of rights

The start of the new season in both the men's and women's EHF Champions League is very close and the ball gets rolling on 30 June with the draw for the 25th Champions League season which will be carried out in the Ljubljana castle in Slovenia.

“Slovenia is one of just two countries with both men's and women's EHF Champions League winners," said EHF President Michael Wiederer about the announcement, made at the closing press conference of the VELUX EHF FINAL4 2017 in Cologne. "This is why we started our anniversary season there."

For the future, Wiederer also announced a new way of marketing the media and marketing rights by the EHF. Currently, Infront Sports & Media are responsible for the marketing of EHF EURO events, while MP & Silva market the media rights for the EHF Champions League competitions.

“We have an excellent partnerships with both agencies which have steadily improved European handball," continued Wiederer. "We have discussed the situation with players, clubs and leagues, as both contracts – plus the contracts with VELUX and the LANXESS arena expire in 2020, therefore, the Executive Committee have decided to bundle the rights.

"The EHF will go to market with a tender for the EHF EURO media and marketing rights for the period from 2022 until 2030 and the Champions League rights for the term from 2020 until 2030 - this will be a huge package of rights, in a modular system and the tender will be published in September”, said Wiederer, before adding:

“Our sport has developed in all aspects in a positive way - the interest in all events has increased and the media landscape has changed.

"We are fit for the market, we can offer the market something interesting andhe right moment has come to bring this huge package to the market.”
