Best half-year ever for LANXESS arenaThe LANXESS arena Cologne, home of the VELUX EHF FINAL4 since 2010, looks back on the most successful half-year of its 19 years of business history – thanks to 1.448,823 visitors at 135 events from January to June. Germany’s biggest and most-visited multi-purpose arena ranks on an excellent fourth position in the global Pollstar ranking. Besides the VELUX EHF FINAL4 with the capacity crowd of nearly 20,000 on both 3 and 4 June, the 34 matches of the IIHF Hockey World Championship were spectator magnets as well as concerts of world stars such as Phil Collins, Ed Sheeran, Bruno Mars or Kings of Leon. In the previously most successful year 2010 1.247,736 visitors came to 18 events from January to June. At the end of the year it were an overall of 1.881,736 visitors at 184 events, including Hockey World Championship and public viewing of the FIFA Football World Championship. Among those 135 events in the first half-year of 2017 were 57 sports events with 692,873 spectators (including 462,435 at the IIHF World Championship), 75 concerts, shows and other entertainment such as carnival shows with 748,450 visitors and three company events with 7,500 visitors. The trade magazine “Pollstar” publishes the number of spectators of the globally most important multi-purpose arenas quarterly. Only concerts, shows and entertainment are part of this ranking, no sports or company events. In the latest “Pollstar”-Ranking the LANXESS arena ranks fourth with 585,977 tickets sold – only topped by the arenas in London, Glasgow and Manchester. This is the best position in the history of the LANXESS arena in this highly respected ranking. In 2018, the VELUX EHF FINAL4 will again and for the ninth time, be hosted by the LANXESS arena. Thousands of tickets have already been sold for the pinnacle event of the VELUX EHF Champions League, which will be carried out on 26/27 May, though the 2017/18 season will only start in September.
