Women's 17 EHF Championship in Lithuania set to throw-off
From 14 to 20 August, the Lithuanian city of Klaipeda will see 10 young European women’s teams in action – and, again, fans can follow all the games for free and live on ehfTV.com.
Competition Format
The 10 participants of the Women's 17 EHF Championship in Lithuania were drawn into two preliminary round groups of five each back in September 2016. Each team will play each other once across five days of matches (14, 15, 16, 18, 19 August).
The winners of each group go straight into the final, the second-placed teams compete for bronze and the remaining three teams in each group play in a placement round with all these games scheduled for 20 August.
The groups are:
Group A: Portugal, Belarus, Turkey, Italy, Georgia
Group B: Ukraine, Lithuania, Finland, Latvia, Great Britain
Host team Lithuania has been preparing for the competition and have produced a small film showing their readiness for the tournament.
Host City
Klaipėda, the Lithuanian city on the Baltic Sea coast is set to host the second Women's 17 EHF Championship of the summer, following the first edition held in Skopje, FYR Macedonia earlier in July and August.
The third largest city in Lithuania has a strong handball history with HC Klaipėdos Dragunas winning the men’s Lithuanian handball league last season and Klaipėdos Dragunas – Viesulas finishing third in their league.
All the matches of the Women's 17 EHF Championship in Lithuania will be played in the new Svyturys Arena which opened in 2011 and has hosted national men’s games, with France visiting earlier this year.
