Barcelona reach an agreement with Veszprem on PalmarssonIt has been on everyone’s lips for weeks but finally it is confirmed: Aron Palmarsson is to become a player of FC Barcelona Lassa in the upcoming days after the record champions reached an agreement with Telekom Veszprém HC, the current club of the Icelandic playmaker. Both clubs confirmed the deal in the statements on their websites on Monday. A childhood dream is coming true for the 27-year-old Icelander. "I think I said in my first real interview when I was 15 years old that my dream club would be Barcelona,“ Aron said a few months back when he was first linked to the Catalan side. Dreams to come true.
Although his career is an astonishing one, Palmarsson has not played a single minute this season after having expressed his desire to leave Veszprém. His situation has been a real stalemate since then, but Barcelona was able to untie the knot after a long negotiaton period. Palmarsson was only 15-year-old when he broke into the first team of FH Hafnarfjordur in Iceland. His fellow countryman and THW Kiel coach Alfred Gislason convinced him to join the German side in the summer of 2009. Since then, Palmarsson has established himself as one of the best center-back in the world. Palmarsson amassed title after title with Kiel, including two Champions League golds, and after having been voted MVP at the VELUX EHF FINAL4 2014 he signed for Veszprém whom he joined in 2015. Palmarsson reached FINAL4 with Veszprém on both occasions in his two years in Hungary and added another MVP trophy in 2016. He lost the final against PGE Vive Kielce in that year after a penalty shoot-out, but last spring he got the bronze after netting eight goals against his soon-to-be employers in Barcelona in the third-place game, 34:30. If Barcelona fulfil all formal obligations, Palmarsson would be able to play his first match against HC PPD Zagreb in the VELUX EHF Champions League on 4 November.
