Bidders show interest for the EHF Cup Finals 2018
The European Handball Federation received interest to host the event from three clubs SC Magdeburg (GER), Frisch Auf Göppingen (GER) and Bjerringbro-Silkeborg (DEN).
Due to the delayed second leg match of Qualification Round 3 between FH Hafnarfjordur (ISL) and Tatran Presov (SVK) the winner of this tie got an extended deadline of Tuesday, 5 December, to submit a respective bid if interested. The Slovakian champions beat the Icelandic team 24:21 in the first leg and the reverse fixture will be played only this Saturday.
After the various aspects of the bids are evaluated, an awarding of the event is planned for the EHF Executive Committee meeting on 16 December in Hamburg, Germany.
The EHF Cup Finals is the final tournament in the Men’s EHF Cup. Four best teams of the competition will meet in one venue on 19 and 20 May 2018 to determine the new champions. Two semi-finals will be played on Saturday, while the third place match and the final will be scheduled for Sunday.
Since its reform and merging with the Cup Winners’ Cup in 2012, the EHF Cup Finals was played in three different cities – HBC Nantes hosted the initial edition in 2013 and the 2016 tournament, Füchse Berlin took over for both the 2014 and 2015 event, while Frisch Auf Göppingen welcomed the tournament in 2017.
