Phase 1 qualifiers for Men's EHF EURO 2022 drawn in ViennaThe very first milestones on the road to the Men's EHF EURO 2022 in Hungary and Slovakia have been laid, as the draw for the phase 1 qualifiers took place in Vienna on Friday. Luxembourg head group A and will face Great Britain, Ireland and Bulgaria; Cyprus is the best ranked team in group B and play against Georgia, Azerbaijan and Malta.
The first organisation right went to the teams from row 4, Bulgaria and Malta, then to row 3, row 2 and row 1. This qualification will be played in a tournament format, with the teams able to choose whether they want to play either 4 to 6 January 2019 or 11 to 13 January. The winners of each group will qualify for the EHF EURO Qualifiers ‘relegation round’. The three lowest ranked teams among the 4th ranked teams in the Men’s EHF EURO 2020 Qualifiers are relegated to this ‘relegation round’ It will be played between these three teams and the winners of the Men’s EHF EURO 2022 Qualifiers Phase 1 as well as the winning team of the Emerging Nations Championship.
