Eduarda Amorim Taleska extends her contract with Győr
“Duda” joined Hungarian WOMEN’S EHF Champions League club Győri Audi ETO KC almost 10 years ago, in 2009 and since then, has been one of the main and constant reasons for their multitude of success. Győri Audi ETO KC recently started negotiations with players whose contracts will expire at the end of this season and the influential Brazilian was one of the first to recently accept the renewed conditions.
ehfCL.com sat down with champions to ask about the details of the agreement, her dreams and the upcoming goals for this season.
ehfCL.com What gives you power to continue your career? What are the main goals for the next three seasons?
Eduarda Amorim Taleska: First of all, despite of my age, I feel in a really great physical condition. On the other hand, our last Women’s EHF Champions League title gives me huge self-confidence. It also helps that I feel great in Győr, I love the city and the atmosphere in the squad among the teammates is excellent. I would like to keep on dreaming with ETO, achieve further Champions League titles and we should also not forget the Olympic Games (with the Brazil national team) in 2020.
ehfCL.com: Is an Olympic medal the last missing piece for you?
Eduarda Amorim Taleska: Exactly, the Olympic medal is the only one that has been missing from my collection, but unfortunately there are many challenges around the national team lately, so it does not seem a realistic goal. However, you never know, anything could happen.
ehfCL.com: With Gábor Danyi, the team has a new head coach. How do you see your chances to win the Women’s EHF Champions League for the fifth time?
Eduarda Amorim Taleska: We know him well, but this is a new situation as he is now the head coach lately and, furthermore, it’s a new season. We will try to settle with our new style of playing a bit faster handball, but such new tactics need time to be adapted.
However, I deeply believe in the work we do and also believe that we can win the tournament again.
ehfCL.com: Your ex-teammate, Yvette Broch, has paused her career due to the physical and mental pressure. Did you ever feel that it was enough for you as well, that you just cannot do it any longer?
Eduarda Amorim Taleska: It is exhausting performing on the same high level for so long and to continuously feel the pressure of winning each of the games and competitions. Sometimes we could easily feel like we’re robots, but this is how professional sport is. I truly understand Yvette’s feelings and respect her decision
Fortunately, I could always find motivation to gather more and more power to continue, I love handball and I do not feel time has arrived to stop yet.
ehfCL.com: You have been in Győr for a long time and the next chapter is still coming, but which are your most memorable moments?
Eduarda Amorim Taleska: It is difficult to compare the different seasons to each other, but I would choose the first and the last Champions League titles. The first one is because at that time we had the biggest pressure of winning the trophy due to the previous failures.
While the last one I would mention because we had a really tough season due to several injuries.
ehfCL.com: Do you think you will retire from handball with Győr?
Eduarda Amorim Taleska: Yes, I think this is my last contract. Afterwards the plan, is to start the family “project”. However, as I already said anything could happen, but right now I feel that after my contract expires I will finish my career.
