Danyi begins his tenure with a win against Krim
GROUP C Győri Audi ETO KC (HUN) vs RK Krim Mercator (SLO) 39:23 (18:9) Sara Ristovska grabbed the lead for the Slovenian team with the first goal of the match and for the only lead they held during the whole game. Mostly, with the newcomer Kari Brattset’s goals, Győr were leading by three at the end of the first 10 minutes. Both the defence and the attack worked well from the beginning for the Hungarian side. With a late seven-metre throw to take a nine-goal advantage into the break (18:9) left Győr feeling calm and the home crowd was satisfied with the performance of the green and whites. The title holders could play with more freedom in the second half as Gábor Danyi had encouraged. The whole bench had the chance to play and Amorim was just too strong and too good for Krim.
Laura Kürthi, only 16-years-old, not only played her first match in the Women’s EHF Champions League, but scored too. The outcome was crystal clear long before the end. Győr could not be stopped and they deserved the victory from the beginning of this clash. Debutant coach Gábor Danyi was proud of his team for how they performed, “It was uplifting to be on the bench especially because the whole team played very well. The offence worked perfectly, however the defence was not immaculate. I can be pleased as we improved in many things, but we need to focus and concentrate in 60 minutes not only for periods.” TEXT: Bela Muller/at |
