Spain and hosts Argentina capture Youth Olympics gloryBeach handball made history in Argentina last week as 24 teams took part in the sports first appearance at the Youth Olympic Games. A packed arena in Buenos Aires saw the host nation’s women’s team reach the final with a win over world champions Hungary, then go on to claim gold with a 2:0 victory over Croatia in the final. Hungary won bronze with a 2:1 win over last year’s European champions Netherlands. Reigning European and world Under 17 champions Spain added Olympic gold to their incredible collection in Saturday’s men’s final. The Spaniards needed a 9:6 shootout victory against neighbours Portugal in the final, while Argentina beat Croatia to claim bronze.
