Stanko snatches a point for Krim in CroatiaWith both teams level on two points heading into the clash, Saturday evening’s clash was a crucial one in Group C of the Women’s EHF Champions League. Home side Podravka Vegeta were in control for most of the match and will feel hard done by with the final result as a three-goal lead slipped from their grasp in the final minutes.
GROUP C Krim’s Tjasa Stanko was in her element early on, but Podravka offered a more well-rounded attack and took command of the match towards the end of the first half. Natalia Chigirinova and Karyna Yezhykava led the way for the Croatian champions, who went into half-time with a two-goal advantage, much to the delight of the 2,500 capacity crowd in the Fran Galovic Arena. Podravka Vegeta held a comfortable four-goal lead heading into the final 10 minutes, but ill-discipline cost them as Krim clawed their way back into contention. With the hosts in possession in the final moments of the match, Krim’s pressing defence worked as Stanko pulled off a sublime steal, stormed down the court and ensured her side took home an unlikely point.
