Györ secure Group C victory with fifth successive winGábor Danyi’s Györ squad started the clash with RK Krim Mercator revved up, and cruised to another victory to seal their position at the top of Group C.
GROUP C Györ's fans took advantage of being under four hours from Krim's arena in Ljubljana to lend vocal support to the 2017 EHF Champions League winners. That noise spurred the visitors on. Goalkeeper Kari Aalvik Grimsbø helped give her team an early lead with no concessions in the first six minutes while Györ scored five goals. The title-holders then eased off the pressure and Olga Perederiy scored the first of her five goals for Krim. Lamprini Tsakalou was also valuable to Krim in the first half with the most goals for the home side, although the women in green and white continued to increase their lead with efficient attacks. The name of the winner was known long before the final whistle and the rhythm of the match slowed down, although Györ never quite took the pressure off. Amandine Leynaud, who took over from Grimsbø at the start of the second half, secured her team a nine-goal win as she saved a penalty shot in the last seconds. Coach Danyi said his team was still evolving, with their counterattacks not yet as precise as he wanted although the defence was performing well. "We played poorly sometimes, however the team was able to continuously fight. In my opinion the rest until next weekend comes at the best moment. The most important part of the season starts in January and we are preparing for that," he said. TEXT: Béla Müller/jh |
