Kobenhavn leave Sävehof no chanceAlthough Kobenhavn had already secured a spot in the main round of the Women’s EHF Champions League, the Danish team showed much of their attacking power in the Nordic derby against Sävehof, beating the outsiders 33:22.
GROUP B The Swedish champions had lost all their previous games in Group B, and their dreams of taking points in the last group match were broken very quickly. Kobenhavn were a better side from the opening minute. Emily Stang Sando did a good job in the goal, allowing the home team to score from fast breaks. Sävehof’s goals came few and far between. The score was 8:1 in the 12th minute, and 14:4 in the 24th before the Danish outfit led by 13 goals at the break (19:6). Having reached such a big advantage, Kobenhavn considerably slowed down. The match looked much more balanced in the second half, yet that did not stop the home side from cruising to a 33:22 victory. Thanks to this result, Kobenhavn surpassed Brest and finished second in Group B, while the last-placed Sävehof will continue in the Women’s EHF Cup in January. Kobenhavn coach Claus Mogensen said after the match: "Considering the fact that we had already qualified for the main round, it made me happy to see that the team brought so much energy and enthusiasm to the game. We played concentrated, fast and with a great efficiency. It was simply just high class." Mogensen said his team were dreaming of the quarter-finals, and were looking forward to "six hard matches" in the main round. TEXT: Sergey Nikolaev/jh |
