GOG complete perfect Danish startSoon after TTH Holstebro won their opening Men’s EHF Cup Group Phase campaign successfully, the second Danish participant completed the perfect start for Denmark. GOG secured an important away win at Lublin, thanks to a strong defence.
GROUP D As in their previous Group Phase appearance in the 2016/17 season, when they beat eventual semi-finalists Saint-Raphael, GOG started this stage with an away victory. Azoty-Pulawy were behind from early on, only levelling at 2:2 and 9:9. Thanks to a strong defence including Norwegian goalkeeper veteran Ole Erevik, GOG took the upper hand quite early. But the hosts were playing on an equal level until early in the second half before GOG pulled ahead to their first four-goal advance at 20:16. Pulawy intermediately struck back, but when Ole Erevik saved a penalty shot at 24:19 midway through the half, the deal was sealed. GOG’s defence had a good game, but nine goals from Emil Jakobsen and six from player of the match Lasse Møller were key for the perfect start. They will hope to continue the run at home against Fraikin BM. Granollers on Sunday. Meanwhile Pulawy face a challenge at THW Kiel on Wednesday. TEXT: Björn Pazen/jh |
