GROUP 1 PREVIEW: Denmark’s Odense and Kobenhavn will battle for the last Women’s EHF Champions League Quarter-final spot in their do-or-die clash on Saturday


Winner takes it all in Danish derby

With seven quarter-finalists of the Women's EHF Champions League already known, the last open spot is likely to be filled after the Danish clash between Odense and Kobenhavn.

In a French derby against Brest, Metz will try to consolidate their lead in the group, while Buducnost and Rostov meet in Podgorica and want to bounce back from their last-week frustrating defeats.

  • both Danish teams are level on six points, but Kobenhavn have the better goal difference

  • their first match ended in a 24:24 draw, so Saturday’s winner will secure a quarter-final spot

  • if they play to another draw, the last spot will be decided next week

  • last week, Kobenhavn got their first win in the main round, against Buducnost 31:20

Metz Handball (FRA) vs Brest Bretagne Handball (FRA)
Sunday 3 March, 15:00 hrs local time, live on ehfTV.com

  • Metz have a perfect record after four matches in the main round

  • Metz easily beat Brest 32:21 in the reverse fixture

  • after winning in Rostov, Metz have taken sole lead of the group, with 13 points

  • Brest cannot reach the quarter-finals anymore

Buducnost (MNE) vs Rostov-Don (RUS)
Sunday 3 March, 19:00 local time, live on ehfTV.com

  • Both teams come off heavy defeats: Buducnost against Kobenhavn (31:20), Rostov against Metz (26:18)

  • Rostov are second with 11 points, Buducnost third with 10

  • Rostov won the previous match against Buducnost, 24:22

  • Buducnost have won all five home matches in the competition
