FINAL PREVIEW: After a draw in Denmark last Sunday, both Siófok and Esbjerg enter the second leg of the Women’s EHF Cup Final with realistic hopes of lifting the trophy


Duel between Siófok and Esbjerg going to the wire

Both Siófok KC Hungary and Team Esbjerg had their reasons to be happy after a 21:21 draw in the first leg of the Women’s EHF Cup Final last Sunday.

The Danish team was losing by four goals 10 minutes from the end, so avoiding defeat made them excited. The Hungarian side might have been disappointed not to win, but their away draw is a definitely a good result to go into the decisive home leg on Saturday.

With both teams starting level, nothing has been decided yet, and the fight for the title is going to the wire.

FINAL, SECOND LEG

First leg result: 21:21

  • Sunday’s 21:21 was Siófok’s first draw of the competition; Esbjerg had split points with Storhamar in the group phase

  • apart from the draw at Storhamar, Esbjerg won all six away games; Siófok have won all seven home games this season

  • with 69 goals, Siófok’s Andrea Kobetic is just one goal shy of the competition’s leading scorer, Helene Fauske (Herning-Ikast)

  • on Wednesday, Siófok secured third place in the Hungarian league with a 30:20 win over Alba FKC

  • Esbjerg had no domestic match this week as the Danish league final series against Herning-Ikast will start on 18 May
