MIDWEEK PREVIEW: Three matches around Europe from three groups take place on Wednesday evening with four of the teams in action still on the lookout for their first win of the campaign


Flensburg and Sävehof chase second victory

The VELUX EHF Champions League action continues thick and fast with three midweek matches to look forward to.

Just days after an away win in Celje, Flensburg will hope to take an early lead in group A with a victory over Elverum.

Sävehof are also on the hunt for more points at home to debutants Rabotnik, while Dinamo Bucuresti and Kristianstad face off in search of their first win of the season.

GROUP A

SG Flensburg-Handewitt (GER) vs Elverum Handball (NOR)

  • Flensburg are fourth of the group A after their 25:24 win in Celje, while Elverum are last after their 10-goal defeat against Aalborg

  • it will be the first encounter between the two teams in European competitions

  • the last time Elverum faced a German club was in the Cup Winners’ Cup 2010/11, when they lost both quarter-final legs to VfL Gummersbach

  • Flensburg have the most Norwegian players in group A, besides Elverum, with Magnus Rod, Goran Johannessen, Magnus Jondal and Torbjorn Bergerud in the squad

GROUP C

IK Sävehof (SWE) vs HC Eurofarm Rabotnik (MKD)

  • Sävehof opened the season with a 30:25 victory away to Cocks, while Rabotnik lost their CL debut match 30:29 at home to Sporting

  • there is a large gap in average age between the two teams: Sävehof have the youngest squad in the competition with an average of 21.16, while Rabotnik are the fourth oldest at 28.23

  • Sävehof suffered defeat in the Swedish league over the weekend, leaving them with just one win from three matches

  • victory for Sävehof would already see them match their winning record from their last campaign at this level in 2012/13

GROUP D

C. S. Dinamo Bucuresti (ROU) vs IFK Kristanstad (SWE)

  • Dinamo Bucuresti have one point after drawing 28:28 away against Kadetten Schaffhausen in their first match

  • Kristianstad will be trying to make up for the 33:24 home defeat to GOG in their opening match

  • Dinamo had a fine dress rehearsal on Sunday, winning 29:27 at home against HC Dobrogea Sud Constanta in the Romanian league

  • Wednesday’s game will be first European meeting between the two clubs
