GROUP B

Magura Cisnadie (ROU) vs Siófok KC Hungary (HUN) 23:31 (9:17)

The match started with many turnovers and bad shots from both sides. Siófok were slow in attack as their world-class back, Nerea Pena, was missing after getting injured in a midweek domestic league game and the team boasted only 12 players.

However, Siófok gradually strengthened their grip on the match and built an eight-goal lead (17:9) in the first half.. The Hungarian club developed an 8-goal lead until the half time as the right back Andjela Janjusevic from Siófok always found the net in the most critical moments.

Led by Zsuzsanna Tomori, the away team kept the gap between the sides intact in the second half.

As Alexandru Weber’s team did not find the antidote of the title holders’ game plan, the result was known long before the final whistle, even though Cisnadie kept the margin at eight goals after the break, avoiding a bigger defeat.

In the next round, Siófok will host also undefeated HC Podravka Vegeta for the sole lead in the group, while Cisnadie visit Kobenhavn Handball for a duel between two teams likely fighting for their final chance to keep any quarter-final hopes alive.
