It all began in the summer of 1923 outside the city gates of Kiel. A few boys in the Hassee-Winterbek gymnastics club no longer just wanted to do gymnastics in military order. They wanted to play. So they organised a ball and two poles as goalposts and played handball - a sport that the gymnastics movement invented in 1917 as a contrast to football. TEXT: EHF / Björn Pazen |
