It was a shock, a tough moment for SC Magdeburg and especially for Gisli Kristjansson. After only 12 minutes of the first leg of the Machineseeker EHF Champions League quarter-finals against Orlen Wisla Plock, the Icelander twisted his left foot, while running back to defence, without any contact to another player. Right after the match, the SCM team doctors diagnosed a broken ankle, and everyone said it would be the end of the season for Kristjansson and another long-term injury after Ómar Ingi Magnusson and Magnus Saugstrup.
