Costica Buceschi behind Türkiye’s master plan at maiden EHF EURO

FEATURE: Big steps have been made in women’s handball by Türkiye, who have qualified for their first EHF EURO. Their coach explains how it was done.

In the past, Türkiye have always produced talented players, such as Yeliz Özel, who featured in the EHF Champions League Women, dazzling with her skills and finishing as runners-up with Kometal Skopje in 2005. But the Türkiye women’s national team has never made it to the EHF EURO in their history, missing out on a ticket every time due to their failure to secure one of the top spots in the EHF EURO Qualifiers.

Yet, with the expansion of the competition to 24 teams at the Women's EHF EURO 2024, Türkiye have made it to the final tournament for the first time in history, and they made it in style as the best third-placed team, with some excellent results in the qualifiers.
