Safeguarding in European handball: A look at the EHF and member federations

A handball federation has the responsibility to protect the health, wellbeing and human rights of its members. What safeguarding policies are active in European handball?

One of the four umbrella topics under which the Women’s Handball Conference 2026 is structured is Her Environment, referring mainly to the creation of a safe environment for female athletes. As such, the programme of the two-day Conference, taking place in Katowice on 16–17 December in conjunction with the Women’s EHF EURO 2026, includes a number of presentations focused on safeguarding. Safeguarding is also a key area featured in the EHF’s Women’s Handball Roadmap 2029.
