Robert Begus, coach of Slovenian Krim Ljubjana talks about the reasons of his team's early exit from the Champions League.
Begus: "One Bad Day"
Krim Mercator said goodbye to Champions League. After the disappointment in Ljubljana, we talked to Krim’s coach Robert Begus. It was the first year as a coach for 37-year old Slovenian and it was not really successful so far.
Eurohandball.com: The CL exit goodbye is not a pleasant thing. What went wrong?
Robert Begus: The girls had some good opportunities in the first half to change the result in our favour but they did not take advantage of them. They made too many unforced errors. I cannot say they did not fight, but it simply did not work out. Once again Bojana Popovic made our lives miserable.
Eurohandball.com: Your team was confident in the group phase, but they lost track in the two quarterfinal matches…
Robert Begus: Well, the quarterfinals or knockout matches can be lottery. One bad day can finish your journey. That’s what happened to us.
Eurohandball.com: It was obvious that there were few fastbreaks on Krim’s side.
Robert Begus: I must say that we made plenty of counter attacks in first part of competition, but it did not work in quarterfinal matches. We almost did not do any. I have to say that we made some progress in this season, but lot of work is waiting for us in the future.
Eurohandball.com: With the Hungarian newcomers Krim, in theory, should be on top of Europe. Do you agree?
Robert Begus: We have a great team; maybe we need only one more defensive specialist. This team should be an equal rival of the best teams.
Eurohandball.com: After a defeat against Slagelse would you say that the Danish club will reach the top of Europe once again?
Robert Begus: I think it is great team with superb players. Even though they have shorter bench they are able to cope themselves. I think they are on right way to win the CL title.
