Slagelse Preparing for Danish Finals

Slagelse DT will play against Győri Audi ETO in the Women´s Champions League semi-finals next weekend. The Danish side are ready for the Danish championship finals.

Slagelse won the second, away leg of the semi-finals against EHF Cup representative Ikast/Bording EH by 39-30 on Friday. As Slagelse had won the first leg 34-29 at home, the team of coach Anja Andersen are now preparing for the finals that will be played from 28 April.

Slagelse players had reason to celebrate againDominating all the way

The injured Romanian backcourt player, Carmen Lungu, recovered for the semi-finals. Her team dominated the second match against Ikast right from the start and all the way through the game. Slagelse were leading 16-13 at halftime and they were continuously increasing their lead during the second half. Mette Melgaard and Bojana Popovic were top scorers of Slagelse with 10 goals each.

"Of course, I’m happy that we are now in the finals - and also for qualifying in only two matches. But I’m not contented with the fact that we received 30 goals today. Our defence should have helped our brilliant goalkeeper Cecilie Leganger more," said Slagelse coach Anja Andersen after the match.

Opponent still unknown

While Slagelse are in the final of the championship already, their opponents are still unknown. In the other semi final tie Aalborg DH defeated Viborg HK 33-32 at home, and due to the rules of the Danish championship play-offs, this was enough for Aalborg to play a third and decisive match in Viborg on Monday - though Viborg won the first match 32-28. NB: only points count in the Danish play-offs, goal differences do not.

The match in the Gigantium Arena of Aalborg contained an incredible drama. Viborg were leading 21-14 at halftime, but Aalborg managed to equalise and to score the winning goal directly from a last second free-throw.
