Anja Andersen in Danish Hall of Fame  

As the first handball player ever, former Denmark international and current Slagelse coach Anja Andersen has been admitted to the Danish Hall of Fame – a gallery of sculptures of the most famous sports personalities in Danish history.

Anja Andersen is incredibly popular in Denmark and respected by the fansThe Hall of Fame is in the Headquarters of Dansk Idræts Forbund – the Danish Sports Association – in Brøndby next to Copenhagen.

Anja Andersen was moved at the ceremony when the sculpture was revealed.

“This is really a great feeling,” said Andersen, who has now joined famous footballers, sailors, badminton stars and other great Danish athletes of the past decades.

Anja Andersen is 37 years old now. She played 133 international games for Denmark and won the Olympic gold medal in 1996. This was her greatest achievement, but she was forced her to end her playing career early in 1999. Since 2000 she has been head coach of Slagelse DT that gained promotion from the 2nd Division and won two Champions League titles. This year her team have a chance to win again...
