VIBORG WIN SCANDINAVIAN DERBY 

Viborg HK – one of Denmark’s three representatives in the Women’s Champions League this season – continued their progress in the preparation matches for the upcoming season. On Sunday afternoon, Viborg won a test match against Scandinavian CL colleagues Larvik HK from Norway 32:30. The match was played in Åkirkeby on the Danish island Bornholm, and the town’s little sports hall, which has a capacity of only 700 spectators, had been sold out for weeks before the match, as handball at this level is not seen every day on the island.

Viborg were leading 17:11 at halftime and they kept a 5-6 goal lead against the Norwegian champions for most of the second half before starting to take things a bit too easy towards the end, allowing their opponents to move a little closer.

Ryde generally content

“It was a fine match at this time, and we played very well together for great parts of the match, although we also saw that we still have some things to work on”, said Viborg coach Tomas Ryde. “We had not played a match for a couple of weeks, so it was great for the girls to get some pace in their legs again. Now we are looking forward to a further test match against Larvik here in Bornholm on Tuesday”, Tomas Ryde added.

In spite of the defeat, Larvik coach Karl-Erik Bøhn characterised his team’s performance as okay. Bojana Popovic scored 6 goals for Viborg, while Linn-Kristin Riegelhuth scored 8 times for Larvik.
