The hosts of the 2007 Women's Champions Trophy, C.S. Oltchim Rm. Valcea, win a splendid handball show and the Trophy after defeating Zvenigorod Zvezda in Sunday's final.
Valcea keep Champions Trophy at home
The 2007 Women’s Champions Trophy came to a spectacular finish this weekend in Valcea, Romania. The event was organised by last year’s Cup Winners’ Cup winner, C.S. Oltchim Rm. Valcea. The 12th edition of this competition – under the name Champions’ Trophy for the first time – was played out in two semi-finals on Saturday 22nd followed by the finals on Sunday 23rd September.
In front a great home support, C.S. Oltchim Rm. Valcea (ROU) won the title for the first time in their history after defeating Zvezda Zevnigorod (RUS) in the final. The fight for third place was won by Slagelse DT (DEN) after taking victory over HC "Lada" Togliatti (RUS).
The top scorer of the championship was presented to Ana Batinic of Slagelse DT who scored 21 goals for her team. The accolade of best player went to Irina Poltoratskaya of Zvenigord Zvezda. Luminita Dinu of C.S. Oltchim Rm. Valcea was honoured with the title of best goalkeeper.
