Roslyng feels no pressure

When the Women’s Champions League throws off next week with the first group phase, Danish Viborg HK will be one of the favourites to win the trophy – at least according to the majority of experts.

This role means no pressure at least to one of the Viborg players, Christina Roslyng Christiansen, who has just made a remarkable comeback to last season’s runners-up in the Danish league.

Christina Roslyng is living in Flensburg, just south from the German border, with her husband, Flensburg’s left winger, Lars Christiansen and their almost two-year old son. The 29-year old former Danish international had already retired from top handball, but as Viborg’s number one left winger, Henriette Mikkelsen, was pregnant, Roslyng accepted to help her former club for the rest of this season. Roslyng is not worried about being favourites in the Champions League.

Eurohandball.com: Were you surprised when your former club called you and asked you to return?

Christina Roslyng: Yes indeed, I was very surprised.

Eurohandball.com: How much time did you need to make up your mind?

Christina Roslyng: About two weeks. I had to get a lot of practical issues settled first. I work 30 hours a week in a bank – Sydbank – but they have been extremely flexible. I also had to get things settled with my family, but once I said yes, I was one hundred percent committed to the challenge.

However, my contract includes a clause that in case I would not be able to cope with it physically, I can stop immediately.

Eurohandball.com: What can you add to Viborg’s team?

Christina Roslyng: As there are many foreign players and many new ones in the team, I think I can contribute with some calmness and experience – on and off the court. Especially that the matches are close.

Eurohandball.com: What was it like for you to return here?

Christina Roslyng: From the first training session on, it has been just like coming home. Viborg is the best club I have ever seen, and it makes it even a greater feeling that we have such a strong team.

Eurohandball.com: Viborg are mentioned as favourites in the CL by almost everyone. How do you feel about that?

Christina Roslyng: It’s fine for me. Our team are strong enough to have a really good chance for the Champions League if we will not have too many injuries.
