GOG win Derby of Danish CL teams

Danish champions GOG Svendborg TGI proved once again that they are the best Danish team in the CL. GOG and Viborg HK met in the Danish league in Gudmehallen, home court of GOG. It was also a rematch of last season’s championship finals when GOG won as well.

This time GOG, who are still playing for the Main Round of the Champions League won 31-26 in front of 1021 spectators. Viborg did not have a chance in the second half, though they were still leading 11-10 in the break.

While Viborg were handicapped by injuries and illnesses of several players, GOG were playing almost at full strength. Only goalkeeper Peter Henriksen had a knee injury.

“It is only a minor injury though, and I’m absolutely sure that I can play in our away game in the Champions League against Slovakian champions, Tatran Presov, on Saturday,” Peter Henriksen said.

GOG with the upper hand

In Henriksen’s absence, the young Niklas Landin had a brilliant fane and GOG had the upper hand from the start leading 6-2 and 7-3. Viborg had their best period of the match in the last part of the first half and they could take a one goal lead with them into the break.

In the second half, however, GOG left no doubt which team were the better, and the hosts already had a 6-goal lead before finally winning by 5.

Swedish left winger, Fredrik Petersen, scored 6 goals for GOG, while Hungarian international, Gábor Cszászár, scored 7 for the visitors.

With this win GOG advanced to third position on the league table, while Viborg are still in the lower half.

Both teams are playing away in the Champions League this weekend. GOG are travelling to Slovakia to play against Tatran Presov in Group D, while Viborg travel to the Ukraine for the Group E match against ZTR Zaporozhye.
