Veszprém's victory gives hope for the Hungarians to reach Main Round. Coach Mocsai admits that the game in Reykjavik was not as easy as the 31-24 suggests.
Mocsai: important victory
Hungarian MKB Veszprém won their last group match in Iceland. The team of coach Lajos Mocsai won 31-24 against Valur Reykjavik and it means that they are currently on second position in Group F with six points, followed by Celje with five.
The last match of the group, Celje vs Gummersbach, will be decisive as the Slovenians can take Veszprém over and qualify with a victory.
Veszprém coach, Lajos Mocsai, gave an interview right after the game to the Veszprém Handball Fan Club website, www.veszpremkfc.hu.
"The victory was not as easy as it appears from the final result. The first half was very equal, the teams went head to head until 14-14 at halftime. We made some changes for the second half, only then could we take some advantage.
"Sesum played a great game in the plamaker position, Ilyés and Perez solved their task in left back well, but Gulyás also played with great determination. We tried to focus more on the line player and on fast breaks: there were positive signs on these areas. I have to add that Peric also performed well, so we can say that it was a team victory.
"I’m happy that we could win this important match in front of 180 Hungarian supporters who came here for us. I hope that this success will give some confidence for us," commented Lajos Mocsai from Reykjavik.
