Anja Andersen to leave Slagelse
One of the most successful coaches in women’s handball, Anja Andersen, announced that she will leave Slagelse DT at the end of the season. Andersen, who won three Champions League titles with Slagelse, will take over FCK Håndbold, a Copenhagen-based club.
The football and men’s handball team of FCK are already present in the European cup competitions, and the intention of the club management is to lead women’s handball to the Danish and international top as well.
“Our men’s team are already on their way to establish themselves among the Danish top clubs. By hiring the most successful Danish club coach ever, we want to send a strong message that we also want to challenge the top clubs in women’s handball at home and on an international level as well,” FCK’s president, Flemming Østergaard, said upon the announcement of the four-year contract with Anja Andersen on Friday.
Eight successful years
Anja Andersen, who was considered one of the greatest handball players in the world, ended her playing career in 1999. She has been coaching Slagelse since 2000 and she led the team from the Danish second division to the top of European club handball. Her greatest achievements were the Champions League titles of 2004, 2005 and 2006.
“There is a lot of potential in this project and I’m really looking forward give my contribution to making FCK the greatest club in the world. I’ve been waiting for a chance for several years to concentrate 100% on coaching. FCK’s highly professional organisation will give me the opportunity to do just that,” said Anja Andersen, who is working as both head coach and sports director in Slagelse.
“I had eight fantastic years in Slagelse and I will do my best to end my career there in the best possible way,” Anja Andersen added.
Milanovic follows Andersen
It was also announced on Friday that Serbian international, Tanja Milanovic, will follow Anja Andersen to FCK from next season. Slagelse announced a two-year contract with the player on 15 November.
It was also rumoured that other new players would join the ambitious Copenhagen. However, Anja Andersen will have to start her new job without one of the current FCK stars, as Danish international Mette Sjøberg will join Ikast/Bording at the end of the season.
Anja Andersen will succeed current head coach, Thomas Hylle, who is going to take over the director position of the club.
