After a bad start for the Spanish sides in the Main Round, all four will play on home courts: busy CL weekend in Spain!
Spanish teams to improve at home
The Spanish teams began the Main Round with three defeats and only Ciudad Real were able to win. However, they will play their matches of this weekend at home. Ciudad Real seem to be the strongest Spanish side at the moment, although the serious injury of Chema Rodríguez was a hard shock for Talant Djusebaev’s team.
Ciudad Real waiting for Montepellier
Ciudad Real can take a significant lead in the ranking with a victory at home against Montpellier. It will be a very special game for Didier Dinart who played in the French club and won the CL final against Portland with Montpellier. The Quijote Arena may be a difficult place for the French side, especially as Ciudad are in good form after winning the last Asobal game against Arrate. Rutenka, Entrerríos and Stenfansson are really in form and they will cope with the absence of Chema Rodríguez.
A Portland in crisis will face Flensburg
San Antonio are not having a good season. Javier Cabanas is not able to find the right playing system for the team. Portland have played some good matches, but they have some horrible minutes during the matches that result in a defeat. Spanish lost the last Asobal game on Wednesday against CAI Aragon in Zaragoza. Balic and Ruesga are the leaders of the team in attack but the fans are disappointed with the last results in Zagreb and Zaragoza. Flensburg have a very good chance to take an away victory in this equal and complicated group.
Barcelona must win against Celje to conserve their chances
The squad of Manuel Cadenas needs a victory by all means. Barcelona lost the last CL game in Gudme and the next match against Celje in the Palau Blaugrana will be decisive. The Slovenians are not the easiest opponents for such urgent cases. The fans can expect a stunning game between two former CL winners in a prestigious playing arena. The Catalonians took a very important away victory in Valladolid this week in the Asobal League and the Cadenas team are enthusiastic once again.
Ademar going for the first points
Ademar will host the French Ivry in Leon. It will be a decisive game for both clubs because the loser may not have more chance to reach the semi-finals. Ademar won their last Asobal game against a modest side, Octavio. It was an easy task for the squad of Ribera who can count on all his players. Garralda and Sigurdsson were suffered small injuries, but they both recovered and they will be fit against Ivry. The goalkeepers, Alilovic and Saric, are in really good form and they are the best weapons of Jordi Ribera.
