A knew and a well-known club will represent Denmark in the CL next year. GOG and FCK will play the finals of the Danish league.
GOG return, FCK debut
Danish champion GOG Svendborg TGI will return to the Champions League next season together with FCK Håndbold. Both teams have qualified for the finals of the Danish championship play-offs and both finalists – winner and runner-up – qualify for the CL.
GOG that finished third in the ground series in Denmark, faced Aarhus GF in their semi-final tie. Aarhus – CL participants in the 2005/06 season – could not stop the team of Swedish coach Ulf Sehefvert from qualifying for another championship final.
After winning the first leg away by 37-36, GOG got three goals behind early in the second half of the return match, but the home team managed to turn things around and won 29-26.
FCK overcame pressure
FCK Håndbold that won the ground series got under pressure after only getting a 31-31 draw at home against Bjerringbro/Silkeborg. Nevertheless, Copenhagen managed to land a 39-37 win at the away match. This means that they qualified for the final and for their first CL competition ever.
While GOG are ready for their seventh CL adventure, it will be a completely new experience for FCK. Their coach is former Swedish national team star, Magnus Andersson.
Despite their limited CL history, the Copenhagen-based team have quite a lot of international experience already after reaching the final of the EHF Cup this season.
The finals of the Danish championship will begin on 16 May.
