Perfect start for HSV
After two defeats in the Toyota Bundesliga, HSV Hamburg stepped on court with a lot of confidence for the first match of the EHF Champions League. With a very strong defence, Hamburg won against Presov very clearly.
HSV started very well, took nearly all the chances and they were leading by six goals at halftime (14:8).
Presov’s best scorer Peter Tumidalsky, Stefan Schröder, Matthias Flohr and Blazenko Lackovic hit the net five times each, but it was a one-sided match.
A huge number of suspensions were given to both teams, but HSV dominated already after 5:4 and made it 9:4 very quickly.
Presov had problems in penetrating the German defensive wall and it was already ten goals for the hosts in the 40th minute (20:10).
HSV coach Martin Schwalb could change nearly the whole team and all players scored, even the defence specialist Dmitri Torgovanov.
At the end the difference was twelve goals and HSV showed that they are ready for the matches against Copenhagen, which will be decisive for the first place of the group.
“It was our objective to start with a good defence and we were well prepared,” HSV coach Schwalb said.
“I’m happy with this clear victory and I think that even the result is okay, as our team keeps improving.”
Presov coach Rastislav Trtik would have been satisfied with a defeat of ten goals difference, but after the match he said:
“We played against a world class team. The back court players made the difference, we didn’t score enough from these positions, and we didn’t score from counter attacks. We have to play a different game.”
