Jakob Thoustrup, a 27-year old middle back, will joing the German top team.
Another Dane in Flensburg
SG Flensburg Handewitt have signed yet another Danish player, the sixth in the squad. In order to compensate for the many injuries, Flensburg signed the 27-year old playmaker Jakob Thoustrup from current number ten in the Danish league, Fredericia HK. He will join the Bundesliga club with immediate effect and signs a contract until the summer of 2010.
“Things happened really fast in this change, but no one should have any doubt that this is a really great step for me. I’m really looking forward to this challenge,” Thoustrup said as the contract with Flensburg was officially announced.
Fredericia HK are in financial trouble and the transfer of Thoustrup can partly solve the problems. In Flensburg Jakob Thoustrup is meant to help fill the gap left by long-term injuries of key players such as Alen Moratovic and Erlend Mamelund.
Big expectations
Unlike the five other Danes of Flensburg – all national players – Thoustrup is far from being a prominent handballer. He has never played a single international game for Denmark and only 30 U21 international matches. Nevertheless, the Flensburg manager Fynn Holpert has great expectations:
“With him we have another point of reference in our team and also for the coming season we will secure a good starting position in Europe,” Fynn Holpert said.
The new player can help the team in the German league, but he will not be eligible to play for the team in the Main Round of the Champions League.
