Croatian gunner ready for Veszprém

In the last round he scored nine goals against Flensburg. As his form is on the rise, his expectations grow even faster. Just before the decisive match for the quarterfinals, Eurohandball.com talks to Croatian gunner of Ademar Leon, Damir Bičanić.

Eurohandball.com: You were top scorer in Flensburg with nine goals. Your form is on the rise, but it seems not case for your team. What’s the situation with your team after dropping to fifth place in the Asobal League and suffering two consecutive defeats in the CL?

Damir Bičanić: I’m gradually getting back to form after my thumb injury. I’m not completely satisfied with my performance yet. You must always try to do better.

The spirit in the team remains high. Maybe we don't produce the best results now, but the though schedule is the reason for that and not our bad quality. It’s very difficult to win away against powerful teams such as Flensburg, Veszprpém and Portland.

Eurohandball.com: Your former team, Croatia osiguranje Zagreb will have a really tough task. They need to defeat Chambery away and Celje at home. Can they make it?

Damir Bičanić: I think Zagreb can make it. After Ciudad Real and Kiel, Zagreb have the best team. Unfortunately, they did not show it in the CL yet. Their last chance will be the match in Chambery. I will cheer for them with all my heart.

Eurohandball.com: Your group is pretty complicated. Every match and every point could be decisive. What do you think about the outcome of the Flensburg vs. Montpellier game?

Damir Bičanić: Our group is the most equal one. I respect Montpellier, they are strong and experienced team, but they will hardly get points in Flensburg.

Eurohandball.com: Veszprém are on top, but Ademar Leon will play their last two matches at home. Is it possible to predict the outcome?

Damir Bičanić: It is certain that Veszprém have the best chances for the quarterfinals. They will defeat Montpellier in last round, for sure. And I think the other last round match between Leon and Flensburg will decide who will be second in our group.

Eurohandball.com: Before that, your next opponent will be Veszprém. You already played against them. How do you see the chances?

Damir Bičanić: I expect a tough match. Veszprém are a great team, but they will leave Leon with empty hands. When we play at home there is no team that can defeat us.
