Busy times in Pamplona
Danish player Claus Jakobsen has confirmed that he will play in Denmark next season. The playmaker has signed for Skjern for three seasons. Jakobsen explained that his decision was made because of his family. He will leave Spain in June after nine years playing in the Asobal League.
Though the contract of Jakobsen was valid for another year signed with Portland, he hopes to agree with the club.
“I spoke to the club and they understood my decision. My child is two years old, my wife has finished her studies and I think that this is the right moment to return to Denmark. Top handball was in the centre in the past nine years and now it is time to put my family in the centre”.
The Danish league is not yet among the elite leagues of Europe, but Jakobsen has other aspects:
“Skjern’s offer is a great opportunity for me. Perhaps it is not so such a good contract as I had in Spain, but I wish to return home. The Danish league is improving with every season and it is able to attract good players. It will be strange for me, but I knew it would happen one day”.
Jakobsen was happy in in Spain. He played for Leon, Altea, Ciudad Real and Pamplona.
“It was a great time in Pamplona with Portland. I spoke to the coach and the President and I think they support me now. I will not leave Portland for another Spanish club or for a rival. No financial reasons are behind. I know that the club will solve all its problems. I hope that there will be no problem with my contract”.
The last task of Jakobsen will be reaching a place in the Champions League for next season.
“I will give all I can to help the team reach the Champions League again. I want to say goodbye with a good performance. I must to be thankful for the fans,” he said.
Serious injury of Urdiales
Santiago Urdiales suffered a knee injury at the Spanish Cup game against Ademar Leon. The left winger has been operated in Pamplona, but the doctors found that the problem was more serious than expected.
Urdiales will be out for approximately eight months. Nikcevic and Urdiales are both injured on the left wing position, the young Crownley has the responsibility to replace them.
New name for Portland San Antonio?
The Spanish construction industry has also experienced the global economic downturn. As a result, the main sponsor of the team, Portland, may not have enough funds to continue full support next season.
In any case, the company plans to stand behind the team, but it is possible that the club will have to change the name Portland San Antonio.
