Women's 19 ECh: throw-off on Friday

The 3rd edition of the Women’s 19 European Championship will take place in Hungary from 14 August 2009. A total of 16 teams comprised of players born after 1 January 1990 will step on court to play for the trophy that will be handed over for the winner on 23 August in Győr.

The final tournament will be played in three cities; Győr (Magvassy sports hall), Pápa (City sports hall) and Szombathely (Arena Savaria).

In the first phase of the championship – the preliminary round – 16 teams are divided into 4 groups (see table below). Each team will play against each other within their group with the top two teams from each group advancing to the main round (playing for the places 1 to 8), and the third and fourth placed teams meeting in the intermediate round (playing for the places 9 to 16).

A total of 56 matches will be played within ten days of the competition; 18 of them will be broadcast live on the Hungarian TV channel SportKlub. However, not only the fans from the host country can follow matches live as the Romanian, Serbian and Polish television will also take games over.
