The Spanish Supercup was a clear signal before the CL start.
Barcelona beat Ciudad
Barcelona took the Spanish Supercup title with a superb performance. The team of Xavi Pascual showed their strength with a 33-26 victory over the Spanish champion Ciudad Real. Goalkeeper Saric was the star of the Catalonians this time and completed a perfect game with 21 balls saved.
The “Cule” team started the match with good concentration and high motivation. The goals of Rutenka and Romero and the saves of Saric gave a six-goal lead for Barcelona and Ciudad did not find the way out. Sterbik was not as effective as usual and Barcelona scored 20 goals in the first half.
The second half was not much different. The Barcelona defence and Saric were fundamental for the success. Ciudad tried to close the gap after two suspensions, Cristian Ugalde helped Barca out. He stole two balls and scored two important goals that meant the end of the Ciudad hopes.
Ugalde and Hansen were the best players in the second half. The young winger was effective from the right side, while Hansen took responsibility when Rutenka was on the bench.
The great effort of defensive players such as Boldsen, Jeremyr or Oneto also needs to be mentioned. They created a wall in front of Saric and the goalkeeper also helped them with good saves.
Ciudad were helpless; only Aginagalde was dangerous with four goals scored.
The endgame was easy for Barcelona that took the first trophy of the season in Spain. The Catalonians sent a clear message even despite absent players such as Juanin, Sarmiento, Garabaya and Lozano.
