Three teams remain spotless

Viborg, Krim and Larvik have won their second match in the women’s Champions League and remain spotless after the Saturday’s games of matchday 2. Larvik surprisingly won clear against FCK and former player Linn-Kristin Riegelhuth, Podravka took their first points.

Group A:

Viborg HK – HC Leipzig 33:23 (19:10)

Easy victory for the current title holder: Thanks to nine goals of Rikke Skov, Viborg didn’t have any problems with the German champion. The match was decided after 30 minutes, as the distance were comfortable nine goals, nearly as like in the end. Viborg went ahead from 5:5 to 14:7 in only ten minutes.

Even as the former Leipzig top star Grit Jurack was missing due to her pregnancy, the Danish had easy work. The attendance of 1800 spectators meant a new season record.

For HC Leipzig it was the first defeat after nine consecutive victories in Bundesliga and Champions League. Topscorer for HCL was Renate Urne, no player of the German champion reached the same level they had when beating Podravka on matchday 1.

Podravka Vegeta – Byasen HE 32:31 (13:16)

22 saves of goalkeeper Jelcic and ten goals of Pasicnik were the key factors for the first victory of Podravka in this season – but the match was highest tension until the very last second. Byasen had to replace goalkeeper Grimsbö due to the Swine Flu, but the Croatians lacked some key players, too. Camilla Herrem was Trondheim’s topscorer with nine goals.

Aside, Byasen pivot Marit Malm Frafjord was quoted in Danish media that she will transfer to Viborg in the next season. As Podravka – like Leipzig – now have two points on their account, Byasen remain pointless after two matches.

Group B:

Krim Mercator – Aalborg DH 30:23 (17:10)

After the tie in the match Hypo – Metz, Krim is the new leader in group B. After winning in Metz, the Slovenians celebrated a brilliant home starter. The victory was never endangered, as Aalborg didn’t score a goal for twelve minutes at the end of halftime one, and Krim increased the gap to pre decisive 17:10. Even as the Danish tried hard, they couldn’t turn the match. Thanks to 23 saves of goalkeeper Grubisic and eight goals of Zacsik the Slovenians dominated the match, even as Aalborg played an equal second half (13:13). Topscorer for the Danish was Torstensson with nine goals, but best player was goalkeeper Soby. Aalborg still wait for their first point in this CL season.

Group D:

Larvik HK – FCK Handbold 31:26 (15:17)

Thanks to an enormous increase of their performance after the break, Larvik took the points against FCK. Even guest coach Anja Andersen praised the host, specially topscorer Tonje Larssen and Danish goalkeeper Lene Rantala. FCK had the better start, led 13:9 in the first ever Champions League match in the new Arena Larvik. “We made too many easy mistakes in the first halftime”, VHK coach Karl Erik Bohn said: “But we managed to decrease this number and took the points well deserved.” Larssen didn’t only score the important goals for the Norwegians, but led the whole match. Anja Andersen was disappointed about their defence, specially after Mette Melgaard had received a Red Card. Then Larvik turned the match completely, after the 19:17 for the host, FCK had their weakest phase in the match – and VHK increased the gap to pre decisive 27:22. Topscorer for FCK was Milanovic with six goals. Larssen and Kristiansen each scored seven goals for the current leader of the table of group D. FCK remain with two points.
