Serbian Official Squad amended

The deadline for submitting the Official Squads for the EHF EURO 2010 in Austria was 15 December 2009. By this deadline all National Federations had to nominate 28 players as their basis group for selecting the team participating at the European Championship.

In the case of the Serbian National Team, two players were found ineligible to take part at the EHF EURO 2010 by not fulfilling the IHF Players’ Eligibility Code. The EHF did not accept the nomination of Nebojsa Stojinovic and Milan Torbica.

Following communication with the Serbian Handball Federation and receiving inputs on the status of these players, the EHF checked the eligibility criteria in both cases again.

The EHF was informed that Nebojsa Stojinovic kept his Serbian citizenship after receiving a French one and he has never played for any other national team before he was called for the Serbian team. Therefore, he is now eligible to play for the Serbian National Team at the EHF EURO 2010.

On the other hand, Milan Torbica, who also kept his Serbian citizenship, played for the National Team of Bosnia and Herzegovina. According to the IHF Players’ Eligibility Code, he must play 12 months for a Serbian club before he is eligible to play for the National Team. Therefore, the player is not eligible to play for the Serbian National Team at the EHF EURO 2010.

The Official Squad list of the Serbian National Team has been amended accordingly and Nebojsa Stojinovic is entered as the 27th player.
