The FC Barcelona Borges goalkeeper will retire this summer.
Barrufet says good bye
David Barrufet has announced that he will not play next season. The Spanish keeper held a press conference to say good bye, which was a very emotional situation.
Barcelona’s president Joan Laporta was with Barrufet in this important moment. For 21 years David has played for Barcelona and is probably the best keeper in the history of Spanish handball.
But Barrufet was not sad with this decision: "People can think that it is a hard moment for me. But that is not true, it is a happy day. I retire in a wonderful moment and close a marvellous phase of my life. I am very proud of playing for Barcelona during my entire professional career."
The Spanish keeper did not forget to say thank you: "I am really thankful to all my team mates in Barcelona and in the Spanish national team. It was a pleasure to be with all of them. About Lorenzo Rico I have say something special, as I could not stand here now without him, thank you. And to Valero Rivera: he is the best coach I have ever known."
The family has played a very important role in Barrufet’s career. His brother died in 1998 and David remembers him emotionally: "I do not want to forget him. I started to play for him and have dedicated my entire career to him. I do not know where you are but I love you and I miss you a lot".
The Spanish keeper had good words for his parents, wife and sons too. "I have no words for my parents. I do not use to say it a lot but I love you so much. My parents in law have been very important for me because they have cared a lot my wife and my sons. My wife always has been with me, I love you".
