Slovenians prepare for miracle
This Saturday all eyes in the Slovenian city of Velenje will be focused on handball, as the Slovenian champions Gorenje Velenje have the incredible opportunity to advance to the next round of the Men’s Champions League. The only thing they have to do is to defeat their French opponent Chambery.
When Gorenje lost their first game in France 24:28 they were a different team, still with Boštjan Kavaš and Matjaž Mlakar and another coach.
The Slovenian players know what a big opportunity they have. "A difficult and tensed match is awaiting us. Although Chambery is an excellent team, our chances to make our dream come true are completely realistic," said Dino Bajram who did not play in the first part of the Champions League. He then adds: "In order to achieve a victory we will have to show our best performance of the season. I hope we will manage and advance to the 16 best teams in Europe."
For advancing Group B offers many possible scenarios before the match as three teams – Gorenje, Chambery and Bosna Sarajevo – all have five points.
If Gorenje win at home, they advance to the Last 16, no matter what the other results are.
If Chambery claims the victory they are the team to go on to the next round, no matter what the other results are.
If Gorenje and Chambery draw, and Bosna win at the Rhein Neckar Löwen, the Sarajevo side proceeds.
If Gorenje and Chambery draw, and Rhein Neckar Löwen defeat Bosna, Chambery goes on to the next round.
If both games end in a draw, again Chambery will proceed to the last 16.
"It is a big match for us. We can lose everything, but also win all. Our goal was to advance to the last16. I know it will be far from easy but we will fight until last minute," young Rok Golčar said before Saturday’s match.
