Ivica Obrvan new Zagreb coach

After a meeting held on Monday, Zagreb Croatia osiguranje dismissed Coach Nenad Kljaić. There are no official statements about the reason of this sudden decision. Two days later, on Wednesday, Ivica Obrvan was presented as the new coach.

As a player Obrvan won two EHF Champions League titles with Zagreb. In 1994 he won the Bronze medal at the European Championships playing for the Croatian national team.

As a coach, Obrvan won the EHF Cup 1999/2000 with Metković. His last job as a coach was at the Slovenian club Gorenje Velenje. In 2009 he managed to win the Slovenian championship in the year of the club’s 50th anniversary. It was the biggest achievement in the club’s history.

For his new job as head coach in Zagreb, Obrvan will have support from Vladimir Jelčić who remains assistant coach and from goalkeeper coach Vlado Šola.

“Everything happened very quickly. However, I have clear vision and idea of what I want from this team. For sure I can take advantage of all the good effects from my predecessor. I'm sure I will justify the expectations and get the maximum performance out of the team. The club’s management did not yet want me to set a special goal, but I know that I have to take home trophies and of course, to go as far as possible in the VELUX EHF Men’s Champions League. I believe that no team is unbeatable and I will prepare mine in accordance with that thought,” Obrvan said.
