The modus for the pre-qualification phase has been confirmed.
EHF EURO 2012 Qualification Phase 1
Between 02 and 16 December 2012 the final tournament of the Women’s EHF EURO 2012 will be played in the Netherlands.
On 27 April 2011 the groups for Qualification Phase 2 were drawn in Leek, Netherlands. Before the start of that, Qualification Phase 1 will take place, where four teams – Greece, Great Britain, Finland and Israel – play for the two last places in Qualification Phase 2.
The playing mode for Qualification Phase 1 has been confirmed. It will be played in a k.o.-system with the following two fixtures:
Great Britain vs. Finland
Greece vs. Israel
The duels are played in two legs on two days on one venue per duel. The two matches of the first duel are carried out in Great Britain, and the two matches of the second duel are carried out and in Greece. They will be played on 04 June 2011 (first leg) and 05 June 2011 (second leg).
The two winners from these matches will qualify to the EHF EURO 2012 Qualification Phase 2, where placeholders have been used in the draw to determin their group.
The winner of the duel between Great Britain and Finland will go into Group 3, together with Russia, Montenegro and Poland. The winner of the duel between Greece and Israel will go into Group 2, together with Romania, Serbia and Portugal.
