European Masters Games results 2

The second edition of the European Masters Games is in its final days in Lignano Sabbiadoro (ITA) since 10 September 2011. The event featuring 21 sport disciplines showcased and 3591 registered entrants will conclude on 20 September 2011.

The handball competitions for Men and Women took place between 13 and 18 September 2011 and were among the largest of the 2011 European Masters Handball Championships, as 32 teams across four age categories were participating.

The event was excellently organised, including best medical equipment ever for European Masters Games – at all days a doctor, two medical assistants and five helicopters were present.

Following the conclusion of the first three age classes, the remaining tournaments for women 33+ and men 35+ were carried out from 15 to 18 September 2011. To view the final results of the first three age classes, Women 43+, Men 45+ and Men 50+, click HERE.

Final results

Teams Women 33+

With only two registered teams, Angyalok Budapest (HUN) and Fredriksberg (DEN), the tournament was played in a best-of-three modus. The first two matches were very equal and both ended in narrow one-goal victories, the first for the Danes, the second for the Hungarians.

Unfortunately, in game two one Hungarian and three Danish players got injured. As Fredriksberg ran out of reserve players, the third and decisive match ended in a clear victory for the team from Budapest.

  1. Angyalok Budapest (HUN)
  2. Fredriksberg (DEN)

Teams Men 35+

The Slovenian winners from Slovan Veterani (SLO) showed a very impressive performance, winning all their matches without big problems. Even a direct red card in their semi-final – resulting in an important player missing in the final – did not make them look weak at any point against Kolding JF (DEN). Only for a short period in second half the Danes came closer.

  1. Slovan Veterani (SLO)
  2. Kolding JF (DEN)
  3. Russia 2 (RUS)
  4. Brno SK (CZE)
  5. Slavia Prague (CZE)
  6. Veterans Stupava (SVK)
  7. SK Legion XXI (UKR)
  8. Puerto Sagundo (ESP)
