Győri Audi ETO will continue in the Main Round of the EHF Women´s Champions League with a new coach.
Csaba Konkoly loses Győr position
Hungary´s Győri Audi ETO have parted ways with coach Csaba Konkoly one day after the draw for the Main Round groups in the EHF Women´s Champions League was made.
The Hungarian champions will face a tough challenge in the next CL phase, which starts in February, as they will meet the former club of Heidi Løke, title defender Larvik, plus last year´s finalist Itxako, and Danish champions FC Midtjylland.
The club has already begun the search for a successor. Meanwhile, assistant coach Gábor Danyi will take over coaching responsibilities until the new trainer has been appointed.
"In this current season we aim for victories in both, domestic and international challenges, and therefore we need to work with the best possible squad and staff," commented club president Ernő Kelecsényi.
Despite the grand plans of Győr for this season in the EHF Champions League, their strengthened squad has surprisingly suffered two clear defeats in away duels against Randers and Hypo. Those poor results convinced the club leaders that they must act decisively and quickly if the club is to achieve further victories and enjoy a successful season in the upcoming phase of the big tournament.
Although relieved of the top job, Konkoly and his expertise could be retained by the club in another capacity.
